YETI - Redesigned Customizer
Overview
Redesigned the whole new YETI Customizer. With the addition of Sports Custom and Customizer being one of the best feature we have, we took the opportunity to redesign the Customizer with brand new and better UI and UX. I designed this brand new experience from start to end, and there were tons of cross-functional team collaboration!
As a UX/UI Designer at YETI, I have been working on variety of site wide projects that consumers experience for the brand. I was in charge of the ideation, design/development specification. Worked closely with developers throughout the build and QA sessions. Worked closely with the Senior Manager UIUX Designer for the advise.

The Design
The ultimate goal for this project was to allow users to customize their drinkware with more user friendly UI and easy to use experience. Main change is on Mobile, previous Customizer didn’t have a preview screen shown when users are customizing. Users had to go all the way to the end of flow, to Review screen, to see the design on drinkware. With the New Customizer, users can see the preview as they are customizing! Also there was a pain point on Desktop where users had to click “Back” button several times to go back to main screen to try other design options. Now with the New Customizer, users can toggle between design options right away from the top menu so users can quickly move without clicking “Back” button several time to see other design options! This solves the paint points users were having. As we are unifying the UI site wide, we applied the same design system to this new Customizer as well. Customizer is a one of main feature and the best feature we provide and took opportunity to made it even better. This was a long-term project which required lots of rounds of ideation, collaboration with various teams (Brand, Ecomm, Customizer team, Drinkware Team, Dev team, and more stakeholders). This has been live and the engagement rate is high.

Mobile Design
The old Customizer didn’t have a preview screen shown when users are customizing on mobile. Users had to go all the way to the end of flow, to Review screen, to see the design on drinkware. With the New Customizer, users can see the preview as they are customizing. This applies to all design options, Gen AI, Gallery, Text, Upload, and Monogram.
Desktop Design
There was a pain point on Desktop where users had to click “Back” button several times to go back to main screen to try other design options. Now with the New Customizer, users can toggle between design options right away from the top menu so users can quickly move without clicking “Back” button several time to see other design options! The design control panel is located on the right side of the screen, and these are designed to have the the floating feel to it to provide user feeling of open space and feel free while customizing.
Takeaways
It was one of my biggest project at YETI and I was able to learn more about collaboration our team and external team, and a great opportunity to really design for the best feature of the brand. Owning the design process from the start to end, and staying true to the brand while designing, enhancing for the better user experience with more on-branding and premium UI, it really was a great opportunity. I was able to improve my collaboration skills, presentation skills, and communication skills since I had to present this to broader group of stakeholders. Also enhanced my user centric design skills by brainstorming the user flow, research, user testing and design along side. It was super fun project that I really enjoyed because I love to design fun and engaging interaction design and it was a feature that I really wanted to re-design. I will keep move forward and use these knowledge I learned from this project in future projects.
